PKNU South Korea Will Give Puan Maharani an Honoris Causa Doctoral Degree
Pukyong National University (PKNU), South Korea, will confer the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani. Puan will get an honorary doctorate from PKNU for Political Science.
In a technical meeting between PKNU representatives and a delegation from Jakarta at the Pukyong Campus in Busan today, PKNU Deputy Chancellor Kim Young Bok stated that his party was ready to hold an Honoris Causa Doctoral Award event for Ms.
“We have done the rehearsal and technical matters. PKNU is ready to confer an Honoris Causa Doctorate for Puan Maharani," said Kim Young Bok, Friday (4/11).
Kim Young Bok led a technical meeting between PKNU and a delegation from Jakarta to discuss the final preparations for conferring an honorary doctorate degree for Ms. Puan's inauguration as an Honoris Causa Doctor of PKNU will be held on Monday (7/11) at the PKNU College Theater attended by 300 invited guests.
The request that Puan be pleased to receive Doctoral Honoris Causa was submitted directly by the President of PKNU, Prof. Dr. Jang Young-soo, who came to the DPR in mid-July 2022.
“PKNU will be happy and honored to offer Ms. Puan with a 'Ph.D. in Political Science' based on Ms. Puan's outstanding performance,” said Prof. Jang Young-soo.
Prof. Jang Young-soo also stated that his party awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa on the basis of Puan's performance which was considered to present a promising future development direction for Indonesia.
"Mrs. Puan Maharani also encouraged Indonesian women to participate in the global trend of gender equality, and show new leadership across Asia," she said.
PKNU itself is said to give Honoris Causa only to a small number of important figures who are recognized socially and nationally. One of them was the former President of Korea, Park Geun-hye when he was the Chairman of a political party.
Prof. Jang Young-soo also explained that PKNU has also exchanged academic achievements with many Indonesian universities. Such as the University of Indonesia, Diponegoro University Semarang, and the Bandung Institute of Technology to name a few.
"Our university is at the forefront of marine bio research which is highly regarded and pioneered by Indonesia," explained Prof. Jang Young-soo.
"Our new relationship with Ms. Puan Maharani together with our existing close relationship with Indonesia will open a huge door to a new era for both countries," he continued.
The honorary degree from PKNU will be the second Honoris Causa Doctorate for Puan. Previously, the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture received an Honoris Causa Doctorate from Diponegoro University in 2020.
Diponegoro University awarded Puan an Honoris Causa Doctorate in Culture and National Development Policy.
Puan won the title because she was considered to have proven to have contributed significantly to the progress, prosperity, and welfare of the nation, state and humankind. This contribution is seen as visible in his position while serving as Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture).
