The Sambo Case Destroys the Image of the Police, Jokowi Asks to Better the Image

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked all ranks of the Indonesian National Police to work hard to restore public confidence, which had fallen drastically. This was stated by Jokowi in his directive to the ranks of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday (14/10).

“In November (public confidence in the Police) was still 80.2 (percent), very high, not high, very high. Now, yesterday August, was at 54 (percent), falling, supine, very low. That is a tough job that you have to do to restore public confidence in the Police, in the midst of the current unsupportive situation," said President Jokowi, according to a YouTube video recorded in Jakarta, Saturday (15/10) quoted from Antara.

According to Jokowi, before the shooting incident in Duren Tiga which dragged the former Head of the Propam Police Division Inspector General Pol Ferdy Sambo, the Public Trust Index placed the National Police at the top at the time.

This is driven by the hard work of the Police in handling Covid-19 by supporting the injection of 440 million doses of vaccine to the public, so that the pandemic subsides and the economy can grow 5.44 percent.

“But once there was the FS (Ferdy Sambo) incident, everything got worse, and it fell to the lowest number. In the past, compared to other law enforcement institutions, it was the highest. Now, Brothers and Sisters should know, to be the lowest. This must be returned again with the hard work of all of you, "said Jokowi as well.

The Head of Government of the Republic of Indonesia reminded that currently the situation in all countries is difficult, because they are facing global economic waves and storms. In fact, currently 66 countries are in a vulnerable position, and 345 million people in 82 countries already suffer from acute food shortages.

To that end, Jokowi reminded all ranks of the National Police to have the same sense of crisis. He also reminded the police to pay more attention to their lifestyle, so as not to cause social jealousy and become the public spotlight.
