Fajar/Rian Realize World Level Competition is Getting Tighter

At the 2022 World Championships which will take place on August 22-28 in Tokyo, Japan, the Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto pair do not want to be burdened by the increasingly fierce competition in the men’s doubles sector.

The fifth-ranked pair in the world just wanted to maintain their focus through each round even though in the end their hopes led to their desire to win the first title of this event.

“What is certain is that we continue to work hard, because the competition in the men’s doubles is very tight. Fellow Indonesians are strict, not to mention those from abroad. We just focus on every game. Don’t be eager to win, but try to enjoy and bring out all your abilities,” said Rian in written information from PP PBSI in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Fajar/Rian also learned a lesson from last year’s downturn, which is now starting to bear fruit with three championship titles and four runner-up positions.

According to them, the key to revival in 2022 is obtained after being able to change the mindset and double the motivation to perform better in each tournament.

“The motivation in particular is because the competition in the men’s doubles is very tight. There are six to seven Indonesian couples who want to be the best. After losing at All England 2022, we changed our mindset. Don’t think the target is too far, but how to show the best game in one game to the next,” said Fajar.

Based on the results of the 2022 World Championship draw, Fajar / Rian occupy the top pool with the world number one pair, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon / Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan who are in third place.

Meanwhile, Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri are the only Indonesian pair at the bottom of the chart.

The assistant coach of men’s doubles, Aryono Miranat, believes that the draw results have advantages and disadvantages.

“Between profit and not. Fortunately, if they meet each other, there will definitely be representatives in the next rounds. Moreover, all of their status is superior so they get a bye in the round of 64. But it’s not lucky to meet your own friends in the early rounds, because one partner will be eliminated, “concluded Aryono.
